Beautiful Porch

This week Alex started the porch on Wednesday because that is when the rain stopped and the sun started.

It has been the most beautiful spring weather. 

We met with Dan on Monday I think? and decided to do a full awning/extend the porch to over our bedroom windows. 

It costs quite a bit extra, and we kind of weren't sure if it was a good choice...

But now that it's done and we see how beautiful it looks,

we are stoked on it (you will see at the end of the post). 

PS

Before they cover this part up with ceiling I want to document - this is where they roofed over our current roof. 

Hunter has said a few times he thinks we should make a "man cave" up in that cove. It would be a secret door extending from the play room, and it could be a little reading nook or a storage space...

We won't do it right now, but in the future I have a tiny baby hope that this can be turned into Hunter's Man Cave.

WEDNESDAY

They had to do a LOT of sanding. I felt sorry for them haha.

Also, it's wild to think that a pile of wood gets delivered, and they turn it into walls and roof and windows. 

THURSDAY

The covered porch began to take shape. 

Exposed beams. 

Beautiful.

Originally the plans had the covered porch area go to just here. 

FRIDAY

By the end of the day Friday they had the awning integrated into the porch area. 

This corner took a lot of engineering and figuring. 

This was exciting to look out and see the roof line extended by the porch.

Avery won't be able to look down into the back yard at all anymore. 

SATURDAY

Today we left all day to Galbraith while they worked and worked.

We came home to see how amazing it all looks. 

It's so exciting. 

Our yard is the fun neighborhood yard lately. 

The kids run through it and back into the trees and into all those back alleys. 

Hide and seek, chase, etc. 

I love that. 

This is the view from our bedroom. 

 I love how the awning and beams frame the window. 

That there is what they call a "cricket" to mitigate water runoff. 

There has been so much talk about a cricket and I couldn't imagine what that would look like...

But there it is. 

 

Truss The Process

Monday morning:

Snow. Truss delivery. 

That did not stop Alex from climbing atop the balance beam in rubber boots and scraping the snow off.

They didn't know if the delivery would fit up and over the garage, but it did. 

Isn't this exciting? 

Building a house is so fun to watch. 

I love these framers. This guy wears the same bright green hoodie every day. 

They work so hard out there. I will miss them when they're done. 

This is a good time to tell you I didn't qualify for LASIK. 

So I return to my contact regimen that I've been doing my whole life. 

After they leave for the day, we go out and explore the changes.

There was so many puddle from the snow on Monday. 

Jim swept out all the standing water, and it's a good thing he did because the next morning was freezing, and any standing water was ice.

It would have been a major ice rink in there.

TUESDAY:

Tuesday they worked on roof sheathing and rafters and fascia board trim stuff. 

Oh yeah, a tool broke, so Alex spent a lot of the day trying to fix it. 

His buddy did a lot of the roof by himself. 

The new view out our/soon to be Avery's window. 

The rest of the week they worked on tying the new roof to the old roof. 

It's so fun to stand out there and see the progress and see our house change.

Jim and Joe have been working on these plans for years, and now it's coming to real life. 

Dan our contractor said up to this point it seems like it's going fast. But from here on I think a lot of invisible, unexciting things happen that seem to take much longer.
