Kind of last minute we decided to go to Maui for spring break.
Because of some change of plans on the flight, we left late Friday, got to Maui late at night,
and checked into our temporary hotel to sleep.
The next morning we played around (pool, botchy ball) while Avery's ibuprofen kicked in.
Then we road tripped counter clock wise around the top loop of the island.
The road was super sketchy - one lane and windy. Also super pretty!

We were exploring around while waiting for our resort room to be ready at 4:00.
We ventured to the blow hole, bought some banana bread...
It was HOT! so it actually felt really good to get sprayed.
We made our way around to Kanapali, ate some pizza, then went to get checked in.
When we were walking to our suite, we just kept walking down the hall. Keep going, keep going,
until - SURPRISE! we got the corner suite with the front row view of the ocean.
I really don't know how and why we got the best room. It was not on purpose.
It was so awesome - kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, stocked with games and puzzles.
We made our way down to the beach and played around. Then we swam in the pools, went to the grocery store, watched the sunset, watched whales out at sea splashing around...
The kids didn't love snorkeling, but one time when me and Jim were out there, we followed a sea turtle around for like 20 mintues. It was the best.
On Easter Sunday we listened to some conference talks, hid some candy for the kids to hunt,
and watched The Ten Commandments.
One day we drove down to Wailea.
We shopped around and found a football to buy! One important item to have around for the teenager boys is a football.
Then we went to Makena Beach.
The waves were so fun here. A bit rough, actually, but the boys had so much fun getting tossed.
A few times Evan would pull Andrew up to his feet before he got battered again.
Me and Avery went to explore a nearby crater, but the trail took us right by a NUDE BEACH.
Avery was in front of me and immediately turned around: "it's a nude beach!"
AAAAAAAhhh. So yeah, we turned around and just took some pretty pictures on this side instead.
After a few hours, the boys were in pain from getting sand in *ahem* all the cracks, so they laid here on their towels to get dry and then waddled back to the car in agony.
Every time we would return to the resort all sandy and tired, we would shower off as best we could,
then take a dip in the pool and hot tub to really finish the job. You really have to reach in all the places and get the sand out.
Standing under the pool waterfall feels soooo good and is effective in getting the sand out of your hair.
Makena Beach waves were so sandy.
After we all got cleaned up, we went to eat at this place that has a robot bring you your food.
Night swimming was the best. So much football throwing.
Acai bowl is a morning tradition.
The last full day before heading to Black Rock, we dinked around with the lawn toys, and threw around the football.
It was so fun to take a picture when throwing/catching to see how funny you look:
At Black Rock there were so many people, but we saw lots of cool fish, and a turtle.
Then there was comotion down the beach while two seals climbed up on the sand for some sun bathing.
We all had to go over and have a look at their silly bodies trying to get up onto the land - bodies that are great for swimming, terrible for walking.
Back at our kitchen we had the best snacks/meals:
apples, cheese, crackers, sandwiches, oreos.
This boat was washed up on shore outside of our resort.
There was major storms the days before we came and a few boats were "beached" around the island.
This one was very old and run down.
I was saying "what if a big wave came along and took us out to sea and we waved 'goodbye everyone! goodbye!'" and waved goodbye. haha
Then we went to check out "Dragon's Teeth".
It was so fun! This is the kind of thing you do when you are sick of sand.
The lava was in formation like dragons teeth, and there were some blow hole areas that looked like dragon intestines, where the waves blasted the rocks until they were pink!
This is probably my top favorite thing - I love that we all did the labryinth.
Remember when we went to Seattle for the first time and Avery completed the labrynth when the rest of us gave up?
There was also an area where the water smashed into the rock and it made a noise like a dragon grumble.
It was also next to a golf course, so Evan and Jim were looking for golf balls the whole time. They found 7!
This was our last day, so that night we went night swimming until the bitter end.
And I got the most delicious ban mi from a food truck.
Welp, then it was time to go home.
whaaaaa.
We stopped by for one more acai bowl and some krispy kreme.
Our flight home was fun because it was on Hawaiian Airlines big plane with the four seats in the middle, and me and the kids got to all sit together four across.
Sigh. It was such a fun break from reality. So many times I would be having so much fun, and then remember the lame stuff at home waiting for us: soccer starting and some other stuff.
